Chapter 17

Upon seeing Saoirse’s breakup announcement, Georgina immediately. called Julian to confirm the news.

However, it was as if Julian had vanished into thin air. There was no response from him.

This had never happened before.

Feeling uneasy, she sent him a few more messages.

Seven or eight hours passed, and still, she didn’t get a reply. Growing impatient, Georgina deliberately sent Saoirse a surprised emoji.

“Did you and Julian really break up? What happened?”

A reply came through five minutes later.

“I’m studying abroad in Flenca. It’s going to be exhausting, being in a long- distance relationship. That’s why I ended it.”

A bright smile bloomed on Georgina’s face as she read those words, and her eyes gleamed with joy.

Now that they had broken up, Julian would stay by her side, and she wouldn’t have to scheme to break the couple up anymore.

Although this was what she was thinking, the message she sent back was full of feigned regret.

“I honestly thought you two would make it in the long run. It’s such a shame that you broke up. But I get it. Julian can be hard to deal with, given his personality. He doesn’t get close to anyone other than the few friends he grew up with. You must’ve had a tough time these past few years. Anyway, good luck with your studies abroad!”

Seeing Georgina’s passive–aggressive message, Saoirse simply replied with a short “Thanks.”

Not wanting to waste any more time on someone no longer in the picture,

Georgina grabbed her phone and headed straight to Julian’s house, only to find he wasn’t there.

She couldn’t help frowning as she stared at the closed door.

Where on earth was Julian?

She was so eager to see him that she booked a private room at a nearby teahouse and waited for him.

That wait lasted over ten hours. She even took a nap.

It was the next morning when she finally caught sight of Julian. She hurried downstairs and followed him until she finally caught up with him at

his front door.

“Julian, where did you go? Why didn’t you respond to my messages or answer my calls?”

Despite hearing her scolding laced with a hint of playfulness, Julian wast so exhausted that he didn’t have the energy to explain to her.

“Something came up,” he replied briefly before turning to go inside.

Georgina wasn’t satisfied with that answer. She pouted and asked in an upset voice, “What could possibly be so important? Do you even care

about me?”

Julian paused for a moment, feeling like his head was about to explode. His response wasn’t gentle.

“I’m really tired right now. Stop making a fuss.”

In all the years they had known each other, Julian had never spoken to Georgina with such indifference and impatience.

Georgina, raised in luxury and now carrying the weight of her long wait and frustration, couldn’t swallow her grievances. She became even more

emotional.

“I’m worried about you, and you call that making a fuss? Julian, when did you become like this?”

“I’ve always been like this.”

Chapter 17

After coldly dropping that line, Julian slammed the door shut with a loud bang.

The sudden noise startled Georgina, and tears streamed down her face. She bit her lip, glaring at the closed door. Her face was twisted in anger as she stomped and stormed off.

Julian hadn’t slept properly in 48 hours, having flown three round trips to Poralis. Hence, the moment he got home, he collapsed onto his bed and slept for 24 hours. It was his empty stomach that finally roused him from his dreams.

Dazed, he got up and walked toward Saoirse’s bedroom out of habit. He pushed open the door and called her name several times but got no response.

When his blurred vision finally cleared, and he could see the empty room, he froze like a statue.

A chill ran up from the soles of his feet, piercing his heart.

His heavy lids hid the sadness and loss in his eyes. However, he couldn’t stop the uncontrollable tremor of his body.

He had forgotten that Saoirse wasn’t here anymore.

They had already broken up.
