Chapter 16

Julian remained silent for a long time.

Saoirse didn’t say anything either. After quietly finishing her coffee, she stood up with her bag.

Julian was lost in his thoughts when he noticed her movement. He immediately stood up as well, reaching out to grab her hand.

“Saoirse, I…”

Saoirse quietly waited for a minute. Still, Julian couldn’t finish his sentence.

Growing impatient, Saoirse gently lifted her left hand and pried his fingers off one by one.

“For the sake of the four years I loved you, let me go, Julian.”

Her sigh sent a tremor through Julian’s heart.

Panicked, Julian looked at her, his face filled with unease. “I’m sorry, Saoirse. I know I haven’t been a good boyfriend these past years. I didn’t fulfill my responsibilities. Will you give me one more chance?”

Saoirse stared at him, a trace of sarcasm flashing in her eyes.

“You don’t love me. Even if we try a hundred more times, the result will be the same. Let’s end this here.”

With that, she strode toward the door without looking back.

Watching her determined figure, Julian felt all the strength leave his body. He collapsed back into his chair, his eyes unfocused. As Saoirse’s words echoed in his ears, he couldn’t help thinking about their three years together.

He rarely replied to her messages, seldom shared his daily life with her, and hardly ever took her out on dates.

He had never cared about her feelings, never noticed her changes, and never expressed love to her face.

Saoirse had endured three years in such a one–sided relationship.

Yet Julian was completely oblivious, continuing to remain entangled with Georgina right in front of her, engaging in all sorts of intimate behaviors.

What right did he have to ask her to come back to him after carelessly wasting and squandering her affection?

The afternoon sunlight was bright and warm, casting a gentle glow over Saoirse.

After voicing everything she had held back, she felt her steps grow lighter. Everything around her seemed more pleasant.

The fountain in the square refracted a rainbow in the sunlight. She reached into her bag to take out her phone and capture the moment, only to discover a flood of new messages on WhatsApp.

Saoirse opened the messages one after another.

They were filled with questions from friends and classmates, asking what had happened between her and Julian.

As she read through them, she felt troubled about what she should reply. Since Georgina was involved, she didn’t want to drag her into it. She had to be careful with her wording.

Walking while thinking it over, she eventually decided that there was not need for an explanation. So, she posted a simple update on her social media, using the rainbow photo she had just taken as the background.

“Thanks for your concern. We’ve parted ways on good terms.”

That short statement spread like a whirlwind across every social platform. at Hufter University.

“OMG! The campus heartthrob is single again!”

“Did Julian finally dump Saoirse?”

Seeing the dramatic screenshots her roommates sent in their group chat, Saoirse felt both amused and exasperated. She couldn’t help but ask in the group chat, “Am I really that awful? Why is everyone saying Julian has

finally been freed?”

Her roommates quickly sent her words of comfort.

“They’re just blinded by his aura. None of them can see how amazing you are, Saoirse.”

“Exactly! There are plenty of handsome guys out there, so don’t be upset. You’ll find someone even better!”

“Queenie is right! It’s not worth feeling sad over such a heartless guy. Saoirse, stay strong!”

Did they all think she was brokenhearted?

Saoirse couldn’t help but laugh. She immediately typed a reply to clear things up.

“I’m not sad at all. Actually. I’m the one who dumped Julian.”

Five seconds later, her screen was flooded with question marks and exclamation points.

Ten minutes later, the news that Julian had been dumped by his girlfriend was all over the place.

Saoirse became famous overnight.
