Trouble 124

Once I recomposed myself, I visited Zachary at the detention center.

When I stepped into the place once again, I was filled with mixed feelings. I had just gotten released from the detention recently, yet everyone acted as though they never remembered seeing me there. They were quick to gloss over and forget the pain and suffering that I had gone through here.

“Ms. Jones!” An anxious male voice rang out all of a sudden. It successfully derailed my train of thought.

I looked up at the speaker. It was Zachary.

“Don’t call me that.” I extended a hand while smiling at him. “I’m not here as a lawyer today. Logically speaking, I’m not suited to directly engage with you as your wife’s lawyer.”

Zachary reached out to shake my hand gently before releasing me. I could tell that he was trying to keep his emotions in check.

“I’m sorry,” he said softly.

I shook my head. “It’s alright. Let’s talk business. I was hoping that I could have a casual conversation with you as your wife’s friend.”

“Is she… doing well?” Zachary asked me sadly.

I recalled the only time I got to see Cindy. Even though she had light. makeup on, it did little to conceal her sickly complexion.

But I promised to keep Cindy’s illness a secret, so I gazed at Zachary impassively. “Yeah. She’s doing quite well.”

“Ms. Jones, it doesn’t matter what my wife says nor how bad the rumors about her are. I will never believe that she’ll ever cheat on

Tven if you want to take me to cool you still have to investigate the whole matter thoroughly, don’t you You mustn’t take any case that is buth solely on best

At Zachary spoke, his cadence became quicker with The same time, he became increasingly agitated.

There was a table separating me from Zachary, not to mention that there were officers standing guard night outside the room. I wasn’t afraid of Zachary doing anything extreme.

I just smiled as I said soothingly, “Mr. Robinson, you can just call me Ariana. I’m not here to talk business with you today.

“Then there’s no need for you to remain here! I only want to talk to you about my wife’s case!”

Zachary buried his head in the crook of his arms before letting out a heavy sigh. His attitude was crystal clear–I wouldn’t be able to have a heart–to–heart conversation just to convince him to file for a divorce with Cindy amicably as a friend. Hence, I decided to cut to

the chase

“Your wife was the one who requested I come here.”

The moment Zachary heard Cindy being mentioned, he quickly sat up straight. “Is there something she wants to tell me?”

“if possible, she doesn’t want to file for a divorce via a court case. You two have been together for 16 years, so she doesn’t want things between you two to end in such a graceless way.

“Moreover, you two are public figures too–she’s a retired actress, while you’re at the peak of your popularity. Isn’t your career more

important than a failing marriage that can never be patched up?”

The moment my words fell, Zachary started laughing abruptly. “I knew it! I knew that Cece still cared about me! Ms. is, did Cece request for you to probe for my reaction? Please pass her a message for me! Tell her I never thought of wanting to get a divorce with her!”

Honestly speaking, Zachary was right. Cindy did care about him so much that she’d rather ruin her own reputation just to protect him. But she had completely underestimated Zachary’s love for her.

Money and reputation were nothing before this hopeless romantic.

“Mr. Robinson, your wife wants me to tell you that her current partner is extremely clingy with her and wishes to build their own family as soon as possible. That’s why she wants me to talk to you about getting a divorce as soon as possible.

“She doesn’t want a single cent of your joint assets. As for her personal assets, she’ll have them transferred to you. She plans on forfeiting everything to you in this divorce.”
