Chapter 7
CIRCENN-
“Mommy is that daddy?”
Daddy!
I didn’t bear wrong.
Ordid I
I appears, if my observation is accurate, that the boy gesturing in my direction stands at approximately three feet in height.
His tiny fingers are deliberately pointed in my direction, and his beaming smile bears a striking resemblance to that of my old man.
Ill be damned!
I gare at the identical twins with a mixture of astonishment and bewilderment, attempting to decipher any y utterances of mine.
“Cirenn“” Ralph gently clears his throat beside me, and my head instantly snaps at him snapping me out of my reverie.
I can’t lose is at my own party.
I should stay enim.
This might be a coincidence.
“This is the woman, causing a storm outside” Ralph whispers to my ears alone.
My gaze falls on the woman in front of me again, and then slowly to her kids? She takes a step forward, and the boys follow her.
While I’m acquainted with every guest and their companions on my list. I’m perplexed by her presence, as she appears utterly out of place.
How dare she invite herself.
Her face seems vaguely familiar, yer 1 can’t quite place!
Mommy, as in really dan
By daddy!” The same twin who had asked earlier asks again.
The woman forces a limp smile and extends her hand for a shake, which I reluctantly accept
“Yes, dear. He is” She replies to the little boy, whose face lights up with joy.
As I glance around, I notice a growing commotion–murmurs and whispers spreading like wildfire, with the twin boys and myself at
I turn back to her outstretched hand, and with a sense of obligation, I take it, hoping to put out the tension.
“It’s so nice to meet you again, Cirenn. I am Niomi Gilmore,
Again
The woman’s fare radiates a warm smile, her lips gleaming with a soft peach lip gloss that catches the chandelier’s light.
If at the center of
Her voice is like a familiar spark, sending an electric current through my body as she speaks. The jolt is unmistakable. And the name Naomi Gilmore! No way
It couldn’t he
“Remember ine!” Her voice is too familiar.
Suddenly in his me
It’s the same woman, the same woman who had barged into my office, claiming to be pregnant for me. And all because of her drama, I had to reveal my infertility to her. But she doesn’t look the same.
Her voice has undergone a remarkable transformation, shedding its former quivering timbre to reveal a stern and authentic tone.
It’s as if she’s unrecognizable from the woman I knew four years ago.

The rounded face, once plagued by dark circles and pleading strands of hair, has given way to chiselled features and a confident demeanor. A sharp jawline and prominent nose now complement her striking eyes, which boast luscious lashes and a subtle coating of mascara.
While the thin makeup enhances her natural beauty, it’s clear that her smooth skin beneath it was the highlight of her features.
How can one change so much? My height still towers over her, but her height doesn’t feel the same from four years ago.
I look down at the boys, who are now tugging my shirt.
“I know what you’re thinking..” Naomi’s voice begins. “And yes. They’re your kids.”
I look up at her and try to speak, only to be caught by a few guests and some invited paparazzi taking pictures of me and the boys.
Even if I am trying to discard the fact that these boys could be mine.
The rest of everyone here can see it.
“Ralph. Take care of this, I breathe out
Ralph makes a shift. “But Mr. Greg Monson will be here any minute. You’ve worked really hard for this and waited for
“Ralph!” My call is stern.
“I don’t need a reminder. This is more important than Greg Monson himself.”
He would never understand
He doesn’t know what it feels like when all your life you’ve felt like an abandoned wet candle, still being constantly dipped in water.
Only to be suddenly pulled out and carefully dried with a towel, so a lit match can be tried on you.
The sensation is one of hope – Hope is surely the word for it.
“Ms. Naomi Gilmore. Why don’t we take this conversation to somewhere more private.”
She looks a bit hesitant but lets out a little nod when she catches eyes from different angles.
the beams
“Fine,
as from my guests.
Now sitting in a private, confined room that separates us
I take a good look at the woman in front of me again
No way she is the same timid and fragile Naomi Gilmore from four years ago, indirectly asking me for money.
She is sitting up straight, proud and confident about her boys.
There is also this glow that cannot be explained
So she was actually pregnant? And I discarded her like a miserable prick
Calling her a liar.
But I am infertile.
So how is this even possible! Twins? My mind is still undeniably scattered
“Ms. Naomi Gilmore- begin but get cut off immediately.
“Please just call me Naomi” I nod.
“Naomi, so what you’re saying is, these two I pause to look at the boys moving around the room.
“Are mine?”
“I mean, you can tell. Anyone can she gestures towards her boys with a light shrug.

“I am infertile I keep my voice down.
“But I am the mother to your kids..” she retorts.
I am about to speak again when one of the boys rushes up to me.
“Daddy, look.” He says, pointing at the toy in his hand.
I pay my attention to him immediately, with this feeling of satisfaction I haven’t felt in a long time lingering at the bottom of my stomach.
Naomi starts to speak. “This is your first, Blake, and Jake is younger by three minutes. I know they’re carbon copies of each other. But don’t worry, you’ll be able to tell them apart, with time”
I’ll be lying to my entire existence if I say I am not over the moon right now.
If I say there’s no joy in learning that you have kids on your own. When you’ve been deprived of the fact that you could ever have kids.
When I thought I would be the one ending my family’s lineage with no continuing heir. A miracle shows up
But can I actually call this a miracle?
I clear my throat
“Ms. Naomi, things like this happen a lot and can be coincidental. These boys might look like me but can also
“Also not be yours?” She cuts me off.
I hate it when people cut me off.
“Yes,” I add sternly.
She smiles
I continue. “That’s why I would like it if a DNA test is immediately carried out.”
She looks a bit shaken but nods to agree.
“Fine then”
I know what I was aiming at, but then again, I can’t risk it. Even if I want to. I want these boys to be mine so bad.
And a clarification is all I have to reach for.
