Entrapment 67

Chapter 67

-NAOMI

“Okay that was unexpected..”

Maggie says, pulling out the perfectly wrapped flowers from my received package.

I take the box from her and almost have my eyes bulge out from my head as 1 stare at the remaining items inside the box.

There’s a tiny closed box, an envelope and a small letter that says.

“For Naomi McCain”

A package for me!

This is as scary and nerve wracking as it is.

With my frail hands. I carefully select the envelope, my heart racing with anticipation.

As I slowly open it, my eyes widen in disbelief, my mind struggling to comprehend the sight before me.

Inside, I find a cheque.

My gaze freezes on the figures printed on its face, my brain stumbling to process the staggering amount: millions of dollars.

The room seems to fade away, leaving only the cheque and my own stunned silence. Time stands still as I grapple with the implications, my thoughts reeling with questions and emotions,

“What?” Maggie looks at me.

I let the duvet on my body fall as I hand the cheque to her.

She takes it from me and gasp.

“No freaking way

-Who does it say it’s from?” Maggie ask.

I search around the box carefully but it doesn’t say where it’s from or who it’s from.

“Nothing” I say to Maggie.

“This is crazy. Why would someone send you a flower and a cheque of million dollars. For what bloody reason? Check the other items, what’s in that box!” Maggie’s voice sounds hushed.

I tentatively open the box, revealing a dazzling diamond necklace and a small note lying beside it, its words waiting to be discovered.

What does that say?” Maggie rushes her words.

“Be calm Maggie” 1 scoff

She rolls her

eyes.

“This might seem romantic and all but don’t get carried away”

Carried away?

If anything. I’m scared as hell

This is creepy

I turn to the note in my hand and read it out loud.

This for you. Now it’s your turn to end is all”

Chapter 67

“What?” I turn to Maggie for help.

What could it mean!

She looks as clueless as my brain and I sigh.

“Who in the world is this?”

“I have a gut feeling. Could it be from Charles Dickson?” Maggie raises her brows

“Charles?” I pause. Not doubting her thoughts.

It could be, but instincts are not settling with it.

The man basically approached you so he could get down with you. He’s wealthy and maybe this is his way of pursuing a woman. With a bunch of flowers and a million dollar cheque. And a diamond necklace” Maggie shrugs.

“But isn’t it strange! If Charles should have sent this, not just Charles, anyone else they must have sent it to the McCain mansion not here” I shake my head. “Who knows I live here?”

“The reason you moved in the first place with the boys is because the entire world found out you live here. But you have a point though, this package should have landed in the McCain mansion. It feels as though someone has been following you and waiting for you to show up so they can send it here” Maggie sighs.

“That’s another point” I sigh.

My mind is rigged and I don’t know how to react.

With my gaze focused again on the package in front of me. My eyes immediately catch that the envelope I had taken the cheque out still has some other papers on it

I pick the envelope again and pull out the paper that hides behind it

Noticing it to be a plain folded paper at first. I open it up to reveal a simple, yet significant, message.

The unfolded paper exposes a neatly written statement, its words carefully chosen and impactful.

My eyes scan the page, taking in the meaning behind the carefully crafted sentence, and my mind races to comprehend all that it says.

My gaze snaps to the top of the page, where the hold heading DNA Result‘ grabs r

my attention.

How did I freaking miss that

I start to re–read again and that’s when I take notice of the names.

Circenn McCain, Kimberly Ross and Hannah Mccain.

Hannah?

The little girl who is said to be Kimberly and Circenn’s child.

“You ve

Maggie stops reading and turns to me.

“This is a Dra test result involving Circenn! He has another kid?”

way beneath me.

I’m at a loss for how to process this information, but one thing is certain – I’m consumed by a sense of loathing and distaste for the reality that s staring me straight in the face.

“I don’t know what to say I turn to Maggie and pick the note that says “this is all for you, now it’s time to end it.

“Timm so confused right now. Who could possibly send all these!”

Ataggie complains.

“I have no idea, because this sounds like a threat to me” I shudder.

Just as the tension seems unbearable, Maggie’s phone abruptly shatters the silence, its loud ringtone piercing the air like a siren.

The sudden, jarring sound sends our already–frayed nerves into a frenzy, making us both jump in unison.

“Sorry,” Maggie apologizes as she grabs the phone buried inside her couch.

“That almost gave me a heart attack” 1 shake my head.

The moment Maggie answers the phone call, her face falls.

“Who’s this?” She asks.

I watch her pupil dilate before her neck snaps at me.

“Y–Yeah” Maggie stutters.

“How did you get my number?” She continues.

I pause, my anticipation building up, clashing with my curiosity to know who sits at the end of the phone call.

“Of course” Maggie says gently before handing her phone to me.

“Who is it?” I mouth to her.

She shakes her head at me and beckons for me to just answer the phon

“Hello” I say carefully, into the phone. My eyes roaming on Maggie and hoping to see any hint from her eyes.

“Naomi.” Circenn’s thick voice sends shivers to my body.

“Circenn!” I scoff out loud.

“You sound displeased to hear from me” He says, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

“I’m glad to see you’re still alive and well, and that I still have the power to get under your skin. His words are laced with a hint of mockery, and a smirk seems to linger beneath the surface, as if he’s taking pleasure in my discomfort.

I can’t see him, but I can tell the exact expression he’s putting on.

Such a jerk.

“What do you want from me?” I snarl

After all he said to me, he’s the last person I want to hear from

“It’s an emergency, I need you to come home” He s

says, his voice firm but laced with a hint of

urgency

The way he says ‘home‘ makes it sound like a haven, a place of comfort and safety, which is ironic considering that’s the last thing I associate with the place when he’s involved.

His presence has a way of turning what should be a sanctuary into a source of stress and anxiety, making me question whether I’ll ever be able to find peace in that space again

“I’m good” I scoff.

“What the fuck do you

meant He snarls:

“Are the boys okay?” I ask over his fury.

“They’re fine, and they’re not what I’m onto about” He growls.

“Anything that doesn’t involve my boys is not considered a problem to me, so whatever emergency you have. Please excuse me I say sternly

And I mean

With this stupid package in front of me, I don’t care if he owns another child too.

“paomi, you don’t have to do this” He sighis, his vo

wire straining like he has so many other things to say.

“Have a great d

day Circeon” I say and end the call.

“How the hell did he get your number?” Į tum to Maggie.

“Still asking myself that question” she replies.

He’s Circenn

Of course he knows how to get things his way. When it feels like he runs the entire city like his playground.

I decide to ignore Circent and let go of any drama his name and presence comes with. I don’t care what e

I want nothing to do with it,

After finally getting rid of the mysterious package, I feel a mix of relief and exhaustion wash over me.

I don’t want to have anything to do with that garbage. Whoever it is from.

I decide to take a short nap to clear my head, but first, I need a little pick–me–up

I sende into the couch and grab the remote, scrolling through my favorite shows to find the perfect comfort watch

As I get cozy. Maggie heads off to the shower, leaving me to indulge in some much–needed me–time.

A knock on the door suddenly disrupts my

time and I find myself gritting my teeth in anger as I get up and stomp towards the door to answer

Circenn’s enormous frame suddenly catches my eyes as the door opens and my breath hitches.
