Chapter 61
-NAOMI
The night remains youthful, its darkness still filled with possibilities, as I shower and slip into a comfortable nightdress.
Though my mind continues to grapple with the aftermath of my heated dispute with Circenn, I feel a sense of calm wash over me- thanks to the warm bath, a fragile tranquility that tempers the emotional storm that had been raging within me.
I hate how he misinterprets me.
We do not get each other and we never will.

If there’s one thing I do not want my kids to see, it is an unstable household with their crazy to Circenn and moved in with him, it’s been impossible.
I wish I can just go back to being me and my boys and Maggie.
Oh Maggie, how I miss her.

I shake my head and sigh.
As I apply lotion on my legs, seated on the bed, ready to sleep whenever I’m done.
The door bursts open and Circenn walks inside, reeking of alcohol.
I pause
He leaves for an entire day and comes back looking disheveled and drunk?
I shouldn’t be surprised.
I look at him and he holds my gaze.
I remain silent, my gaze drifting away, my attention redirecting to the lotion I’m holding.
With gentle strokes, I apply it to my thighs, then my knees, the soft motion a quiet distraction from the man in front of me.
“Do not ignore me” His voice is hoarse and grumpy.
I look up at him.
“Circenn. Good night” I say and round up the lotion in my hand on my arms before getting on the bed and under the covers.

As I recline on the bed, my eyes partially closed
I watch Circenn stumble around the room, his movements unsteady.
He careens towards the closer at the end of the room but accidentally trips over the desk close to him, his bulk crashing onto the furniture, causing It to splinter and collapse under his weight.
The action and noise causes me to spring up and hurry to him, to see him cussing out loud and looking defeated.

He looks lost, deprived of himself and it makes me just want to slap sense
me.
If his solution to every argument is drinking till he gets knocked out, I’m going to have to call him out for that.
It’s not healthy, and it’s dangerous.
So many things could happen to a public figure like him if he lets many things lose. He could get robbed or worse.
“How did you get home?” I ask. Because I know he left with his car and his keys aren’t on him.
“Why do you care?” He snarls at me, his body wavering
“Really?” I raise my brows at him.
He’s going to do this now, talk about being juvenile.
“If I don’t care who’s going to then?” My words sound shabby but it is true.
As long as we’re married. I have no choice but to play my role as a wife.
He looks at me and a funny expression that I can’t seem to decipher settle on his features
“If you care about me, you wouldn’t have kissed that fucking bastard” He seethes.
“Please keep your y
voice down, the kids are asleep” I warn.
Circenn chuckles.
He looks hot, actually hot. Like he just walked out of a fiery sea and he’s about to explode.
“How much did you drink anyway?” I scoff.
“A lot” surprisingly he replies.

His eyes drop, focusing intently on my hands as they work, the only sound is the soft rattle of the buttons yielding to my touch, his gaze never leaving the gentle motion.
With the way he’s staring at my hands, it feels like he’s about to bite them. So I rush my hands on his shirt and take a step back when I finish opening up his buttons.
“Take it off” He suddenly says
“What?” I’m confused.

Wow.
He’s really drunk.
“Just help me, I’m drunk, I don’t want to lose my teeth in there. I’ll owe you one, I promise” He sighs, staring at me.
His eyes, now
now soft and gentle, bear no resemblance to the fiery gaze from earlier. Instead, they remind me of Jake’s, but with a deeper, more mature intensity. I try to resist, to utter a refusal, but my voice catches in my throat, leaving me silent and vulnerable.
There is something about vulnerable men that just puts me at ease.
“Fine,” I grumble.
I like how he knows and is admitting he’s drunk and his body has weakened out,
I help him get into the bathroom and he looks totally famished as he gets under the shower and immediately turns it on, the water splashing on
both of us.
“What the hell!” I yell, the bathroom walls immediately boomerang my voice.
“I feel sorry hot.” He says. “I can’t hold my liquor. I hate drinking”
“You should have given me a heads up and you could have easily not gone out to drink. I just freaking showered and now my dress is wet” 1 complain.
“What do you expect me to do then? He lets go of the faucet and turns to me.
The shower is still on and the piercing water is knocking the life out of both of us.
He extricates himself from my grasp, and I’m taken aback to see him standing upright, his feet steady beneath him, without the slightest hint of a stagger or sway, a marked contrast to his earlier unsteadiness
“My head didn’t feel like mine. With everything going on with Kimberly and that child. And then right after we have sex you go on to kiss Charles. Do you know how crazy that made me feel? I want you to get you out of my thoughts but I can’t. So the only way and the only thing I had to do was drink, even if I hated it the most.”
I don’t know when I stop breathing, with the sound of my heartbeat beating right inside my mouth
I listen to Circenn who doesn’t stop talking “And then even after drinking. I couldn’t wait to come home to you? Do you know what you’ve done to me? Do you Naomi?”
His voice is a jarring mix of hurt, anger, and confusion, the emotions tangled together in a way that sends a wild, unpredictable sensation coursing through my body, like the uncontrolled spin of a Ferris wheel, leaving me breathless and off–balance.
I am speechless.
I don’t know what t

his words. It feels like a confession and makes me feel like I’m a hindrance to his life at the same time.
With my mouth hanging open with the sprinkle of water getting into it.
I watch as Circenn’s eyes fall to my chest and then back up to my face.
He walks up to me, and it’s like I can read the tension as I saw it coming when he leans down and kisses me.
