Chapter 58
-JASMINE
Without having to let Charles kiss linger, I push him away from him and take a step back.
With my jaw hanging. I stare at him, hoping he’ll give me an explanation for suddenly pouncing on me and kissing me.
But he doesn’t. He just let silence linger between us
So this entire thing was a setup! I was called here by Alison all thanks to a lie I believe Charles made up so he could do this to me? So he could freaking kiss me!
When he doesn’t plan to speak, I deckle to speak
“What was that?” I scoff, sounding more offended than I actually feel.
“I’m sorry” He begins.
to kiss me
“You’re sorry!” I shake my head. “I don’t understand, why would you get me bere just to
He looks utterly perplexed, his expression a mix of confusion and disbelief.
I watch as he paces back and forth across the room, his footsteps echoing off the walls. His eyes are fixed on some invisible point on the floor, as if he’s trying to unravel a tangled thread of thoughts.
His brow is furrowed, and his lips are pursed, giving him an endearingly befuddled appearance.
The pacing cominues, a visual representation of the turmoil brewing in his mind.
“You kiss me and all of a sudden you’re speechless Charles this is
I stop talking when I don’t know what else to say, this is insane.
“Why would you even kis me? My voice is tired.
“Why would anyone kiss anyone if not because they fancy the other person”
I stop.
You fo
fancy me!” I scofT.
He looks at me
“Of course, who wouldn’t”
My scoff is loud as I pace around the room, not knowing how else to react.
I stop pacing and turn to him.
“First you say you’re not interested in me, now you make Alison make up false information so you can kiss me. You suddenly taking interest in me, Is crazy Charles. I can’t deal with this” I shake my head.
“I apologize, and no, Alison didn’t deceive you. It was a small matter, but I’ve taken care of it. I didn’t know a better way to get you here, so I resorted to this ruse, I understand it wasn’t ideal, but I needed to see you, and 1 didn’t know how else to make that happen.”
“Charles, we’re just friends. And it hasn’t been long since we became friends. I don’t understand where the hell this is coming from” 1 snarl.
Deep down, I’m aware that I’m supposed to be flattered that someone like Charles has developed feelings for me, despite knowing that I’m married with
Every expectation dictates that I should be grateful for his attention, but honestly, it feels strange and unsenling.
I can’t shake the feeling that his interest in me is either contrived or rooted in some ulterior motive that I can’t quite grasp. His persistence makes
me wonder if he’s driven by a genuine connection or a desire to possess something he perceives as unattainable.
“I don’t understand where it came from, it was like a force I couldn’t stop He shakes his head.
Escoll, “Well tell that force that I am married”
As soon as the word ‘marriage‘ leaves my lips, Charles’s expression shifts, his eyes narrowing into a look that’s equal parts indignation and disbelief. I har i struggling to reconcile the idea of me being married with the connection he thought we shared. His gaze is piercing, as if he’s trying to

bore into my soul to uncover the truth. The air is thick with tension as he processes this revelation, his face a picture of disbelief and discontent.
“Married?” He echoes.
I stare at him. He’s onto something.
And I can feel it.
“Do not humor me Naomi. I know y
you und Circenn are contractually married”
stractually married
I pause
Now how the hell did that information get out?
“What makes you think that?” Task.
“It doesn’t matter. Naomi, I feel things for you that I’m not supposed to feel”
“I don’t care what you feel. Why would you think Circenn and I are contractually married?” My voice is sharp and confident
He sighs. “Because I found out myself”
I scoff.
I can’t believe this. He’s just making it obvious that he has an ulterior motive for this sudden kiss and confession.
“So you ran a background check on me?” I scoff.
“I didn’t” he says immediately
“Right” I nod, knowing well that he’s lying.
So all this time, I was right

twice.
Fool me once but not
That’s the real reason he accepted the company’s proposal and why he’s feigning interest in me – it’s all just a ruse to get back at Circenn, nothing more. His supposed feelings for me are just a convenient excuse to further his own agenda
Such dirty play.
Maybe I’ll listen to circenn after all.
“You know what Charles Dickson. I think it’s best we end our collaboration”
His face falls,
“I’m sorry. Look Naomi, both companies have nothing to do with this. Your proposal was seriously so good”
I’m beyond caring about what’s true or false, what’s good or bad. All I know is that I’m not going to let Charles pour salt into my open wound,
I’m drawing a line, and I’m not going to let his lies, his games, or his fake affections hurt me anymore. I’m taking back control, and I’m shutting this down before it goes any further.
And the fact that he did a background check on me!
How empty of him.
“If you do not agree, I’ll just quit then. I can never be a pawn you want Charles I cut him off

“Pawn? Where is that coming from? Who said anything about you being a pawn?” He looks frightened. “I swear on my life Naomi, whatever you’re Thinking-
