Chapter 13
With Madeline’s help, Saoirse settled into her new place in just an hour.
After she washed up, she fell into bed in exhaustion and slept.
It was dark outside when she woke up again. She checked the time on her phone. It was 6:00 am.
It was incredible that she had slept for over ten hours.
Sitting up while clutching her blanket, she turned on the light and looked around at the unfamiliar room. It took her a few minutes to remember that she was now in Poralis.
Her discomfort gradually faded at the thought of her parents sleeping in the next room.
The sudden vibration of her phone that promptly followed startled her. She unlocked it and, seeing a familiar number, her blurry eyes focused
immediately.
Even though she had deleted the contact, Saoirse still remembered the number perfectly.
Why was Julian calling her again? Was he still unable to let go and needed. to vent to her?
Saoirse blinked, trying to clear her lingering sleepiness. She then reluctantly pressed the answer button.
She started to explain, “Julian, I’ve thought about this for a long time. I
don’t think we are compatible as a couple. That’s why I broke up with you. Since you don’t really like me either, let’s just part ways amicably and not keep in touch anymore.”
After she finished speaking, there was silence on the other end of the line. Only the sound of increasingly heavy breathing could be heard.
Two minutes later, Julian finally asked her in a tired and hoarse voice, “You broke up with me out of the blue and now expect to get rid of me with just
one remark about us not being compatible? Don’t you think that’s rude of you?”
Rude?
Saoirse thought about it carefully and didn’t feel she had done anything wrong. But keeping a problem–solving attitude, she responded politely, ” What do you want, then?”
“I want to talk face to face.”
Hearing his request, Saoirse was momentarily stunned. She refused him.
“I’m not in the capital, I can’t meet you-
“I know.” Julian cut her off before she could finish. “I just landed in Poralis. Send me your address; I’ll come see you now.”
Saoirse was taken aback by his words. “What are you doing in Poralis?” she asked slowly, her tone filled with skepticism.
“That’s not something you need to worry about. Just go out to a cafe, send me the address, and wait for me. We’ll discuss the breakup in person.”
He added one last thing, “I won’t leave Poralis until we’ve talked through why we’re breaking up.”
The call ended abruptly the next second.
A moment later, a WhatsApp message from Julian popped up, showing an address for Bowien Airport and a concise instruction.
“Send me the address.”
Saoirse was surprised that he had flown to Poralis to discuss the breakup. However, she had no desire to meet him.
The breakup was final in her mind. She felt no need to discuss it further.
So, she immediately silenced her phone, tossed it aside, and pulled the blanket over her head to continue sleeping.
She slept for another two hours before Madeline woke her up for breakfast.
